Yoder Shopping Center Completes Addition

(August 1, 2011) Yoder Shopping Center, which houses Yoder Department Store, Yoder's Shipshewana Hardware, and Yoders Supermarket, has finished an addition to its 300 S. Van Buren St. facility.

DJ was the general contractor for the project.  The 13,520 square foot addition expanded the retail area of both the department store and hardware.  It also included a parking area expansion.  The construction team worked carefully to tie the new and old portions of the building together as the business remained open throughout the project.

Dr. Marion Yoder, owner, is pleased with the new space and the construction process.  He states, "DJ was very accommodating to any requests we had to address little things that came up during the course of construction.  Mike Yoder, Dan Jacobs, and Pete Garber were all very easy to work with.  If anyone asks, DJ would definitely get a positive recommendation from us.  The company has been in business long enough that they have perfected the corporate culture of working with the customer to make a project as easy as possible for everyone involved."

A third generation family-owned business, Yoder Department Store was founded in 1945 by Ora and Grace Yoder.  The company specializes in fabric, shoes, and clothing.  Yoder's Shipshewana Hardware has been in existence since 1968 and features a unique selection of merchandise ranging from tools and paint to kitchen gadgets and glassware.  Yoders Supermarket is the only full-service grocery in Shipshewana.
