Groundbreaking for MoonTree Community Construction Project

Groundbreaking for MoonTree Community Construction Project

(June 10,2010) The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ held a groundbreaking ceremony this past Monday to commemorate the start of new art studios of MoonTree community.  DJ Construction is the building partner for the project.  The ceremony took place at the project site on the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ Ministry Center complex at 9601 Union Rd. in Donaldson.

MoonTree Community is a blossoming community of people who share a common interest in nature, art, and spirituality.  MoonTree, a ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, challenges people to experience mindfulness as they fearlessly explore the interconnectedness of art, nature and the Spirit within.  It is one of several ministries at the PHJC Ministry Center that creates an intergenerational living and learning center providing opportunities for mutual interchange across generational lines for the complex's residents, co-workers, students, as well as the public.

In its next phase of growth, the MoonTree Community will build new facilities in order to continue the expansion of its ministry.  Each building will target Leadership in Energy and Environmental design (LEED) certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.  The project consists of three buildings: a two-story lodge for staff residence and work space, a gallery studio with exhibit and workshop space, and a shop studio for woodwork and metal arts.  The construction will incorporate heavy timber framing, Structural Insulated Panels, and Insulated Concrete Forms in the final building structure.

The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ are partnering with DJ Construction for the project, which officially began with the groundbreaking ceremony.  DJ is excited for the opportunity to work with the MoonTree Community and help them realize their goals.  The company's experience with LEED building certification is an important factor in the partnership, and DJ is honored to be the builder for this unique and important project.
