(July 26, 2011) Lacasa, Inc. broke ground yesterday for a renovation project to create new apartment units. The old Goshen Housing Authority office, located at 1101 W. Lincoln Ave. in Goshen, will be converted into 15 living units.
Construction began on the 14,812 sq. ft. renovation project in late June. There will be a new parking lot entrance onto Harrison St., and the project includes the addition of five porches creating exterior access into the new apartment units and adding 650 sq. ft. of 2nd floor space.
LaCasa is targeting Silver Level Certification through the National Green Building Standards (NGBS) for the project. "Green" features of the project include recycling of demolition waste and re-use of items where possible. Energy efficiency was kept at the forefront while selecting appliances, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures and mechanical equipment. Additional insulation will also create a more energy efficient building. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2011.
LaCasa, Inc is a not-for-profit community development corporation whose wide range of programs and services assist low-to-moderate-income families regardless of race, national origin, or religion. LaCasa is an equal housing provider.
