Two DJ Employees Now ASHE-Certified
(November 30, 2009) Two DJ employees have completed the requirements to become ASHE-Certified. ASHE (the American Society for Healthcare Engineering of the American Hospital Association) creates and oversees this healthcare construction certification program.
DJ Estimator Pat Gross and Project Manager Dan Jacobs attended a conference in Chicago in October to begin the certificiation process.
The overall purpose of attaining ASHE Certification, according to ASHE literature, is "to gain a higher level of learning and experience as related to healthcare construction." This involves improving awareness, knowledge, and understanding of the healthcare construction environment with the end goal of improving the quality of patient care.
According to Gross, the certification allows DJ to better serve our healthcare provider clients with the ability to recognize various methods, risks, and processes involved with healthcare construction projects. When completing construction in a healthcare environment, it's important to be aware of infection control and know how best to minimize patient disturbance. It's also important to understand the ways technology functions and changes within a healthcare facility.
Jacobs adds, "Construction in the healthcare environment is patient-focused. It is more than just the process of the project, it is a commitment to the safety and welfare of the patients."
In addition to attending the seminar, Gross and Jacobs completed an online learning course and exam in order to achieve their ASHE Certification.
DJ Construction is excited for the benefits this will bring to our current and future healthcare provider clients. DJ President Doug Wogoman states, "As we continue to do work in the healthcare industry, we felt that we had to maximize our knowledge from the client's perspective, both the provider of services and the end patient. We want to be a knowledgable part of the team in order to do construction projects with the patients' safety and care foremost on our priority list."
