AMBS Library and Campus Center Achieves LEED Gold Certification

(July 2, 2009) Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) just became the owner of Elkhart County's first LEED certified building.  The new Library and Campus Center, located on the AMBS campus at 3003 Benham Ave., officially received this certification from the United States Green Building Council on June 4, 2009.  DJ Construction was the general contractor for the building project.

LEED certification involves meeting certain prerequisites in five areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.  AMBS's Library and Campus Center incorporates many "green" features including rain gardens, triple pane windows and extra cellulose insulation, and a geothermal ground source heat pump eliminating the use of natural gas.  During the building's construction, over 90% of construction waste was diverted from the landfill through recycling.
