MoonTree Community

MoonTree Community is a blossoming community of people who share a common interest in nature, art, and spirituality.  MoonTree, a ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, challenges people to experience mindfulness as they fearlessly explore the interconnectedness of art, nature and the Spirit within.

Three new arts studios allow MoonTree Community to continue the expansion of its ministry.  Each building is targeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Level Certification throught the U.S. Green Building Council.  The project consists of three buildings: a two-story Lodge for staff residence and work space, a Gallery Studio with exhibit and workshop space, and a Shop Studio for woodwork and metal arts.  The construction incorporated heavy timber framing, Structural Insulated Panels, and Insulated Concrete Forms in the building structure.

The three super-insulated facilities feature vaulted, timber-framed interiors, generous use of day-lighting and provisions for effective natural ventilation throughout.  The main Gallery Studio includes an exhibition space and open meeting area with dedicated spaces for pottery, weaving, and painting.  The smaller Shop Studio provides space for woodworking and metal arts, while the Lodge houses permanent and visiting staff with space for smaller workshops and private gatherings.  Morrizon Kattman Menze, Inc. of Fort Wayne was the architect.
