Major Office Upgrade

Mennonite Mutual Aid, located along State Road 15 north of Goshen, will undergo a major office addition/renovation project beginning in 2008.  The organization selected DJ Construction and our DesignBuild process to complete the project.

The project will add 40,000 square feet of new space to the organization's headquarters and includes the renovation of its existing facility (also amounting to 40,000 square feet).

The project will be completed in three phases.

Phase one

Adding new office space on the east end of the existing facility.

Phase two

Includes the demolition of existing space on the west end and the addition of a new area to house Mennonite Mutual Aid's credit union/financial area with easy access for the public.

Phase three

A renovation of the remaining existing office space.

LEED Certification

Mennonite Mutual Aid has committed to achieving LEED certification and will continue to explore the specific ways in which green elements will be implemented into its new and existing space as the project moves forward.

The proposed “green” objectives include the following features:

Site

  • Stormwater retention on site; water from roof and pavement treated in bioretention basins and vegetated swales with native plants

Water

  • Landscaping with native adapted plants; no need for irrigation
  • 1/8 gallon flush urinals and dual flush toilets

Energy

  • Triple pane windows and extra cellulose insulation
  • Clerestory windows bring daylight to interior; large exterior windows

Materials

  • Will divert over 50% of construction and demolition waste from landfill to recycling
  • High recycled content in cellulose insulation, concrete, carpet, ceiling tile, gypsum board and structural steel
  • At least 20% of materials extracted and manufactured within 500 miles of site to reduce hauling

Indoor environmental quality

  • Carbon dioxide monitoring to only introduce outside air as needed
  • Low levels of volatile organic compounds in adhesives, paint, and carpet
  • Urea-formaldehyde-free plywood and substrates for wood doors
  • Maximize daylight and views to outside from occupied spaces
